17th - 18th Nov' 04 : Chester, Derby & all those footie grounds!
|
|
A quick stopover at the city of Chester in Chesire provided a close encounter with the football legend, Ian Rush, who is one of my favourite players from the conquering Liverpool team of the 80s.
I have to admit my fascination with football grounds, football clubs and in particular the way football moves the community surrounding the club. For me, that has been the best aspect of football in UK. No matter if the club is a big-time team in the lucrative Premiership or just a small county team playing in a regional league that is 15 divisions below the Premiership, the common thread has always been about the community, and it is apparent in the people & the sceneries that one can encounter in grounds such as those that I visited here.
In Derby, I met up with my mate, Mik Wood, who is a football shirts collector as I am. He was kind enough to put us up for the night and even kinder to show us around Derby & Derbyshire. Thanks Mik!!!!

16th Nov 2004 - To Wales !
|
|
Journey to Colwyn Bay, North Wales via the scenic Horse Shoe Pass. Stopped by at the town of Llangollen for coffee & lunch and fell in love with it.. The view was just spectacular. It is an idlylic Welsh town concentrated by the main Dee River (fav local rapid for white water raftings!)
The legendary Horse Shoe Pass is a must-go route for any visitor travelling to North Wales.
Words cannot describe the experience.

I have never failed to visit my good friend in UK, Rosa Breese and her family in UK in my previous 3 trips to UK. This time is no exception, so off we go up north in our rented Vauxhall Meriva 1.6 (cool car!). Bridgnorth is in Shropshire and it is indeed a quaint little town and a great place to live in. The nearest big city would be Wolverhampton (20 mins drive).
Rosa was a uni-mate of mine back in ITM Shah Alam and the hubby, Clive is a great guy too whom I got to know nearly 10 years ago in KL. Jai (short for Jailani) is their 4-year old son whom I adore so very much!!
Nice cottage house they got there in Linley View Drive, Bridgnorth!
